The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is known, at least in specific circles, for it's chess team. In March 2008, UMBC hosted the Final Four of Chess, and to raise awareness of this particular honor, create hype, and get the entire campus involved, a week of events leading to the championship games was planned.
For this project, I wanted to take our chess success, which is more or less limited to the team, and make it more accessible. I shot original photos with the theme "Chess On Campus", and then used these photos in the design pieces. Additionally, a special gallery was created in The Commons building at UMBC, and these photos were on display for a week before, and during, Chess Week.
Ultimately, the week went fantastically. I was very pleased with the finished pieces, and everything received very high praise from the campus administration and officials, in addition to the general student body, many of whom still wear the t-shirts all the time.
